Higher education
Among university courses and programs at lower level, there are bachelor’s programs. At the higher level (postgraduate level), in addition to master’s and doctoral degrees, you will also find postgraduate certificates and diplomas. Master’s programs are available in many different subject areas, including social sciences, engineering, health sciences, business administration and economics. The master’s degree usually includes research or courses, or a mixture of the two.
Why study in Australia?
In addition to the fact that Australia is a fantastic place to live, master’s programs in Australia also maintain a quality level that is among the highest in the world. The Australian academic environment encourages innovation, creativity and independent thinking.
In Australia, care is also taken to ensure that international students have a good experience in the country. Institutions that accept international students must follow strict rules regarding marketing, course structure, premises and student services, such as legal services and health services.
University
Four of Australia’s 39 universities are among the top 100 in the 2012-2013 Times Higher Education World University Rankings . These schools include the University of Melbourne (28th), the National University of Australia (37th), the University of Sydney (62nd) and the University of Queensland (65th). Approximately 230,000 international students attend higher education programs in Australia, and approximately 90,000 graduate each year.
Cromwell college is one nice Residential college in the University of Queensland offering Student accommodation too.
Tuition fee and program length
International students must pay tuition and fees before starting a master’s program. A typical tuition fee for a master’s program is A $ 15,000 to A $ 36,000 per year, depending on the university.
Master’s program takes 1 to 2 years to complete. You usually study for two years after completing a bachelor’s degree, but a master’s degree can be completed in one year if the student’s bachelor’s degree was obtained with the highest grade (“honors”).
The academic year
The academic year in Australia begins in early March and ends in late November. Many schools offer two semesters per year, but some schools use a three-semester system, and some also offer summer courses from December to February.
Opportunities at the doctoral level
A master’s degree in any subject from an Australian educational institution increases the value of the graduate student for employers worldwide. In addition, a new law has recently been adopted that allows international students who have graduated in Australia to obtain a work visa after completing their studies, which makes it possible for them to work in Australia for four years after graduating.
Although international students may have the right to work in Australia after graduation, students should not start an education just to be able to move to Australia. Australia treats immigrants with specific qualifications favorably, but the migration process for such immigrants is separate from the process of obtaining a student visa. There is no guarantee that a student taking a master’s degree in Australia will then be able to move to Australia.
After completing a master’s degree, students can also continue their studies if they are admitted to a PhD program, and then receive an additional student visa.
